Potency Testing

State of the art instrumentation
Reported cannabinoids
Potency testing is the most effective way to learn about the medicinal value of cannabis. Delta-9 Technologies performs analysis using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and offers the expertise necessary for accurate results. Acid-containing cannabinoids like THCA comprise the majority of cannabinoids in the cannabis plant and cannot be detected by our competitors using gas chromatography (GC). THCA is not psyochoactive and rapidly decomposes upon heating using the gas chormatograph. Table 1. illustrates several examples of the high THCA content found in fresh plants relative to the active form, THC. Many patients are choosing to consume their medicine in edible form to avoid the harmful effects that accompany smoking dried plant material. HPLC does not require heating and better elucidates the original chemical profile found in the plant. The concentration of 6 cannabinoids are reported on our quality analysis reports for 50/sample. See examples here.
Many testing facilities focus only on Δ9-THC, CBD, and CBN overlooking the acid forms of THC, CBD, CBN, and CBG (i.e., THCA, CBDA, CBN, and CBGA). The principle reason CBG has been overlooked is becaue published HPLC separation methods have failed to resolve CBG from CBD and CBN from CBGA. This observation would suggest that analytical labs reporting CBD and CBN content would be artificially high due to this co-elution. According to an excellent publication in the Journal of Chromatography B THC, CBD, CBN, CBG and the acid forms can all be conveniently separated with an optimized HPLC protocol, and these conditions are used in our analyses. We also screen for the naturally occurring Delta-8 isomer of THC, which is a degradation product of Delta-9 THC. Our cannabinoid references were purchased from licensed distributors with certificate of analysis that are available upon request.
